Rep. Gary Glenn, R-Midland, salutes and thanks Gov. Rick Snyder for signing this religious freedom and anti-discrimination legislation into law, of which he is proud to have a been a cosponsor. These bills, now law, ensure that the state does not engage in clearly unconstitutional "content discrimination" against faith-based adoption agencies. It is patently unconstitutional, and long recognized as such, for a government entity to seek contracts for services with private agencies but refuse to contract with any given agency expressly on the basis of its religious views. Those who oppose these new laws favor such discrimination.

"Michigan Catholic Conference President and CEO Paul A. Long, in a statement celebrating the governor's signatures, said the new laws 'will not only promote a diverse range of child placement providers, they will ensure the state does not discriminate against social service agencies that serve the poor and vulnerable while providing foster care and adoption services to the general public.'"
