MIDLAND DAILY NEWS | Regional petition drive kicks off to repeal prevailing wage law

"Rep. Gary Glenn, R-Midland, Jimmy Greene, president/CEO of Associated Builders and Contractors Greater Michigan Chapter, and ABC-Michigan CEO Chris Fisher held a press conference promoting the regional petition drive to repeal the prevailing wage law.

...'The citizen’s initiative puts an item before the legislature and removes the threat of a gubernatorial veto. If the petition drive is successful, then the repeal of prevailing wage will come before the legislature. If we pass it by majority vote, it becomes law,' Glenn said.

Citing a 2013 study by Alex Rosaen, senior consultant for the Anderson Economic Group, Glenn stated Michigan is spending up to $224 million more on public school (construction each year) due to the prevailing wage law. 'That savings, over the course of the last 10 years, could have built an additional 300 elementary schools in Michigan,' he said."
